ABORTION ACCESS

In light of the unconscionable decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, it's imperative women and birthing people have knowledge and access to abortion resources. Unfortunately, this ruling impacts the pregnancy loss community at a higher rate, since treatment for many types of pregnancy loss, is abortion. Abortion, also commonly referred to as a D+C in the medical community, is the procedure REQUIRED to save the lives of those who experience missed miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and sepsis of the uterus. This is abortion. It is necessary. And it is healthcare.

Additionally, this overturning will disproportionately affect Black women and people of color, among other marginalized communities. Race and class will no doubt play a pivotal role in being able to access safe abortion care in the future. While every birthing person will be impacted by this, it’s important we do all we can to help those immediately and directly impacted by this ruling.

INFORMATION ON HOW TO GET AN ABORTION

INeedA's goal is to make it as easy as possible to find the information and resources that apply to you. They will provide you with your closest clinic, options for financial support, and in some cases depending on where you live, access to telemedicine and abortion pills by mail.

CONTROL YOUR REPRODUCTIVE FUTURE

Dr. Jennifer Lincoln is a board-certified OBGYN who created the website ThreeForFreedom.com to help you take control of your reproductive freedom. Her recommendations: birth control, emergency contraception, and medication abortion pills. She provides links and access from the website she founded. Her link for abortion pills will take you to AidAccess, which is an organization that will be able to put you in contact with a licensed provider who can safely prescribe and send you abortion pills no matter where in the country you reside.

TRAVEL AND ASSOCIATED EXPENSES COVERED

The Brigid Alliance is addressing the gap in abortion access in many parts of the country by covering travel and associated expenses for abortion patients with appointments in other states who could not otherwise afford to access abortion care.

JUST THE PILL
Specific to: Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado

Just The Pill enables people in Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado to access medication abortion via telemedicine appointments with board-certified physicians to receive pills through the mail. They may also be able to help offset travel-related expenses.

MIDWEST ACTION FUND

As a practical abortion fund, MAC helps people traveling to, from, and within the Midwest access to a safe, legal abortion with support in the following areas: travel coordination and costs, lodging, food, medicine, and emotional support.

LILITH FUND
Specific to: Texas

The Lilith Fund covers the costs of abortions for Texans who could not otherwise afford it.

GET INVOLVED

If you are fortunate enough to not need an abortion at this time, but want to do something to help the millions of people needing access to an abortion in the immediate future, below is a short list of actionable ideas on how to get involved.

DONATING: FUND THE PATIENTS

The National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) works with more than 80 local abortion funds across the country and distributes money according to level of threat to abortion access in that area of the country. Every dollar donated to NNAF goes straight to a local fund. This is the most-effective place to send funds.

DONATING: FUND THE LEGAL DEFENSE

The Repro Legal Defense Fund will provide *direct support* for people criminalized for self-managed abortion. The RLDF is a bail fund and more: It works to get people out of jail and to keep them from going to prison by ensuring they can pay for the legal resources necessary to get charges dropped and cases won.

VOLUNTEER: WITH YOUR LOCAL ABORTION-CLINIC

There are practical support organizations that provide things like rides, housing, childcare, etc. to people who are traveling for an abortion. Find the fund or clinic in your area and give either your time or money based on the needs.

VOLUNTEER: BECOME AN ABORTION-CLINIC ESCORT

If you're looking for a tangible way to fight back, consider volunteering to be an abortion-clinic escort. You accompany patients seeking reproductive care on the walk from their transportation to the clinic.

ONE LAST NOTE

It feels like there’s a lot to be scared and upset about. But after crafting our Roe Resources email and putting together this list, I’ve realized there are also a LOT of good people out there who want to provide access to safe reproductive healthcare, so have hope, dear heart.

And one final word on how we got here: The conservative movement has spent DECADES building power at the local and state level to reach this very moment. They want you to feel jaded about this decision, and about voting. What’s the phrase? They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds. Please. Please show up. Vote. In EVERY election. The midterms. Your local elections. All of them. It is now more important than ever.
